 KHICHDI


Ingredients:

  • Basmathi rice - 1 cup
  • Moon dal - 1/4 cup (or) Masoor dal - 1/4 cup
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece
  • Garlic  - 3 to 5 flakes
  • Mint leaves - 1/4 cup 
  • Coriander leaves - 1/4 cup
  • Cinnamon - 1 inch piece
  • Cloves - 4
  • Green chillies - 2 to 3
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste

Method:

Wash rice and moong dal and soaked together for 30 minutes.

Grind ginger, garlic and green chillies, mint leaves and coriander leaves in to coarse paste without water.

In a pressure cooker pour 1 tbsp of oil  add cloves, cinnamon and fry for 2 minutes. Add  the grounded paste mix well add turmeric powder mix till raw smell goes in a low flame.

Now add the soaked rice pour 3 cups of water , salt close the lid. Cooke for 10 to 15 minutes in low flames. If you want add 1 tsp of ghee before closing the lid.

Serve hot with onion raitha.
